A tribute to Stanley Kubrik

It was on March 7, 1999 when this great film artist passed away, having left behind great, great works, such as «2001: A Space Odyssey "," A Clockwork Orange "," Eyes Wide Shut "," Barry Lyndon", among many others.

Being that for some Kubrik realized only 13 feature films, I consider it invaluable in his important career, and a large number of works. Being that not any director who nowadays lends himself to have about 10 films under his belt, can boast of having done each one of them to perfection. And it is that Kubrik made art at its highest level in each of his films.

Kubrik was one of the few who achieved true total control over his works, writing, directing and editing each of the films. And gaining, in each image achieved, in each frame, in each directed actor, an impact, an originality and a technical innovation that no one has been able to match over time. Being a cult director today, he obtained 27 Oscar nominations for his films, four of them as best director, obtaining a total of 9 awards.

Many of those who worked with him knew how to describe him as racist, macho and sullen, but his family and friends never hesitated to highlight his sense of humor and ease of dealing. Being reluctant to the social level that his great fame gave him, he relied on his bad temper to avoid having to give interviews, or make himself known through public media. He only made movies, and he did show himself a lover of jazz, chess and photography.

His first feature film was «Fear and Desire«, In 1953, which was followed by«Killer's kiss«, In 1955. In '56 he became known with«Perfect heist«, Beginning to outline his cinematographic style. And he got to earn the title of "cult director" only in '57, with "Paths of Glory"Based on a phrase from the poem by Thomas Gray, and starring Kirk Douglas.

«Spartacus»Was his next project, in 1960, carrying out a real blockbuster, but it did not satisfy his own expectations. After moving to London, he made his first British film, «Lolita«, In ´62, and based on the mythical novel by Navokov. Then, in '64, he premiered his first comedy, «Red phone: do we fly to Moscow?«. The next four years were the most significant of his career, as Kubrik remained immersed in the world of shooting a film that would mark history forever. «2001: A Space Odyssey«, Premiered in 1968, bringing with it the most avant-garde look at the future. And to continue the controversial fame of the director, he made another great adaptation in 1971, «A Clockwork Orange«Which was a brand in the history of technical innovations. «A movie is, or should be, more like music than fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings«, Kubrik affirmed about his film, and his entire careers. After such a film, films of really very different aesthetics followed, such as «Barry Lyndon«, In 1975, and«The glow»In 1980. After this film, Kubrik opened a seven-year hiatus in his career, then returned with«The metal jacket«, And finally, in 1999, with«Ojos bien cerrados«.

A director who was cleanly obsessed with technical perfection, as well as the extraction of the symbolic and philosophical plane from the elements and the stories. A director who despite his death, we can affirm that he went down in history as one of the most virtuous screenwriters, directors, musicalizers and editors in the history of cinema.
