The well-known protagonist of the original Starz series, Jessie Usher, is currently on the scene as he will be working on Independence Day 2, with filmmaker Roland Emmerich. It was the latter who broke the news, confirming that the actor will play Dylan Hiller, son of Captain Steven Hiller (played by Will Smith in the first part)
It has also been confirmed that both Jeff Golddblum and Liam Hemsworth will be in the new installment. Goldblum will reprise the role as David Lewinson and Hemsworth will play President Withmore's son.
The footage is expected to be released in theaters on June 24, 2016, almost coinciding with the 20 years since the first installment was released. Independence Day 2 will go into production in about a month and a half, almost in May.
The script was written by Carter Blanchard after being outlined by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin himself, and then outlined again by James Vanderbilt. Emmerich will also serve as producer alongside Harald Kloser and Dean Devlin.
The first film, released in 1996, had a great reception and good results at the box office, even in DVD sales, but since that has passed a long time and with the fierce competition that currently exists, it will not be easy to repeat success, although surely, and knowing how fond people are of films of this genre, it will surely work very well.
