En Asphalt grips Shawn MacArthur (Channing Tatum) is a small-town boy who comes to New York empty-handed. He barely survives by selling counterfeit branded items on the street. His luck changes when professional con Harvey Boarden (Terrence Howard) realizes that he is a natural fighter. Harvey offers to help Shawn and the two end up forming an uneasy partnership.
Harvey, in his capacity as manager, introduces Shawn to the corrupt no-glove boxing circuit, where the wealthy bet on interchangeable pawns.
